I've been playing with Google trends tonight, and it is really quite cool. Using search volume as a proxy for popularity we can see what are Australia's favorite varietals, we can even break it down to popularity by city.

In summary it seems Shiraz is the most popular red varietal across the nation followed by Cabernet. Pinot Noir is most popular in Melbourne.
